Process

FABRIC
100% silk manufactured in China and purchased through various distributors in the United States in bolts of 25 to 50 yards.

PRE-SHRINK
Silk is machine washed in very hot water to remove all sizing and then dried in dryer.

FRAMING
The pre-shrunk silk is then stretched – usually in 2 yard lengths – on a frame and the dyes are applied.

DYES
Salome silk is dyed with high-quality, color fast dyes that won’t fade or wash out.

DYE APPLICATION TECHNIQUES
Stamping, spraying, painting with a brush.

DESIGN
Freestyle or drawn on with melted bees wax.

AFTER DYING
Finished fabric is put through a steaming process to set the dyes; dyed fabric is washed again to remove any dye molecules which have not adhered to the fabric and is finally dry cleaned to remove any wax residue.

FINISHED SILK
After dry cleaning the silk is ready to be made into scarves, wall hangings, and other finished items.
